We believe that you can have it all: high quality, sustainable seafood that is good for you and better for our oceans, too.
Using sustainable fishing methods and following strict fishing limits helps to ensure healthy wild fish populations and limits bycatch. We are committed to protecting our valuable natural resources for generations to come.
The Story of Oregon's Choice
In 1977 out at sea on his boat the F/V EZC, Captain Herb Goblirsch realized something.
In a small fishing community along the Oregon coast, the lifelong fisherman saw first hand just how much people cared about where their fish came from. In the day of is-it-canned-fish-or-is-it-cat-food, cheap overseas-caught tuna was the only option on the grocery store shelves. He knew people wanted more. He knew that he could do it better.
Using hook and line fishing methods and taking pride in how he cared for each fish, he became the pioneer of “from my boat to your table”. Dozens of people lined up at the docks to buy Herb’s prized albacore tuna, fresh from the boat. Before long demand grew so much that he started canning every fish that he brought to shore so that his friends and customers could enjoy high quality albacore year round.
For the next 30 years business grew just from word of mouth. “The best we’ve ever tasted!” “This is what canned tuna should be!” were words he never tired of hearing, even after so many years. Our motto has always been “quality over quantity”, and that will never change.
As of January 1st 2020, Oregon’s Choice is now officially a 2nd generation family owned company. After 43 years Captain Herb has officially retired and his daughter SueAnna Harrison is now the proud owner of Oregon’s Choice Gourmet Albacore.
We are proud to say that we will always stay true to our promise of quality over quantity and always utilize sustainable fishing methods that protect our valuable natural resources for generations to come.
Our motto has been: A good fisherman is one who takes good care of his catch and protects the resources of the sea for those to come.
